The Third Superstar with the Planet

Posted in football news on August 28th, 2011 by admin

One is declared to be a music superstar when his music reaches the four corners of the world, when his message has universal understanding and when he becomes the best representation of a specific genre of music. To all these characteristics, some pragmatic ones are added, such as greatest sold music albums or the maximum number of tickets sold to a concert. Unbelievable to some, Bob Marley has become the third superstar of the world, following Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.

Nesta Robert “Bob” Marley was born in the 6th of February 1945 in Jamaica and he grew up inside the violent Kingston suburb. Being a little boy he felt the attraction to music and he decided to focus his entire life about this matter. This is the reason why he abandoned school when he was fourteen. He firstly began writing and composing music on the “ska rhythm”, which was the kind of music promoted by that time in Jamaica. Later he switched his interest towards reggae music, which was softer than ska rhythms. His career began to flourish when he began to sing using the Wailers. They had been the first reggae singers who signed for big discography houses, such as “the Island”.

His music sang throughout Jamaica, all over the United States and then all over the world. He began to sustain concerts in North America, also as in Europe and Africa. He had to move out from Kingston when a politic party attempted oh his life. This happened because he was sustaining the rival party. Right after this, he moved to the United States and returned to Kingston only in the 1980, to perform a reconciliation concert and then in 11th May possibly 1980, when he dies. He was buried in his homeland Jamaica and his music was sung on the amplifiers during the burial process. His songs, such as “Forever Loving Jah”, “I shot The Sheriff”, “One Love”, and “Redemption Song” could never be forgotten, and they are listened to all over the world.

Moreover, Bob Marley?s philosophy of live had a great influence on his songs. His lyrics had been not written in order to make commercial music, but they were written to take forward the message the singer wanted to give to the whole world. One of the themes of his songs came from the Rastafarian movement.

The Rastafarians were deeply religious and they believed within the God called Jah, and in His son, Jesus Christ. Their religion has some similarities with Christianity, but the striking and totally contradicting the Bible difference comes from the fact that Rastafarians believed Jesus was reincarnated again inside the body of the Ethiopian black president, Selassie. This is why Bob is singing about the God who is walking on the streets, amongst folks.

Another idea promoted by the Rastafarian movement is the holiness of Ethiopia which will be the new Zion and the healing land. In his album, the Exodus, Bob Marley promotes the immigration from Jamaica, the Babylon, to Ethiopia. Furthermore, they unofficially promote marijuana, as being utilized in holy rituals but also in everyday life. The Rastafarians are recognized in the world by their long dreadlocks and beards and by the three colors which became their symbol: red, yellow and green.

Bob Marley also fought against politics, he was a revolutionary spirit. He equaled Jamaican politicians with corruption and he promoted the installation of a new order, led by Rastafarian believers. The critics say that Bob Marley will be the voice of the third world, the voice of the poor individuals who cry out for justice.

Another consequence of Marley being a Rastafarian was the fact that he had lots of children, 13 being registered under his name using the adding that other sources believe he has much more than 13. This movement was against contraception and the result may be seen inside the large number of members of a family. A lot more than that, they do not believe in monogamy and as a result, Bob had his 13 children from 5 distinct ladies.

Bob Marley followed his passion that started in childhood and left behind a musical legacy, colored by the religion he was brought up in, which doesn?t embrace the Christ of Christianity. His talent and passion left behind songs that we all have heard without knowing considerably about the singer himself.

Bobby Knight Calls it Quits!

Posted in football news on August 27th, 2011 by admin

By Pamela Mortimer

Bobby Knight is probably the most controversial coach in college basketball history. Knight, head coach at Texas Tech, is also the “winningest” coach in major college basketball. On Saturday, The Red Raiders beat Oklahoma State 67-60, a win that gave Knight his 902nd victory.

“He stated he was tired and that it was greatest to go ahead and do it now,” stated Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance. “I think Bob is through with coaching. I think he got to the point where it wasn?t fun for him.”

According to sources, Knight gave no signs that his resignation was just around the corner. He will turn his whistle over to his son, Pat, who currently serves as a Red Raiders assistant.

Hance relayed the chain of events surrounding the resignation. The 67-year-old Knight gave Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers the news in a meeting held around noon, Hance said. Afterward, Knight named Hance and told him.

“He thought about it Sunday all day and talked to his wife and decided that ?This is something I want to do,”? Hance stated.

Knight?s choice to leave Texas Tech was even more surprising considering that he had signed a three-year contract extension in September. The contract was meant to run until the end of the 2011-12 season.

Knight?s reputation preceded his move to Texas Tech in March 2001. The coach had been fired six months just before by Indiana for what school officials named a “pattern of unacceptable behavior”.

The decision to hire Knight proved to be a very good one for Tech. During his first six years, Knight took the Red Raiders to 5 20-win seasons, a first for the school. They’re currently 12-8 this season.

Another milestone for Knight occurred when he passed former North Carolina coach Dean Smith to become the “Winningest Division I Coach” on January 1, 2007. This happened when Knight scored career win No. 880. To celebrate becoming the top coach, Knight chose the classic song “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, a mantra for how he chooses to navigate his personal and professional affairs.

“Bob is kind of a funny guy. He constantly loved that song ?My Way,? and this is another example,” Hance stated.

According to Randy Farley, a spokesman for the Texas Tech basketball program, Knight would not be obtainable for comment Monday

Bob Hope: His Classic Television Performances

Posted in football news on August 26th, 2011 by admin

Bob Hope is hands-down the most acclaimed, honored and versatile entertainer in show business history. During his seventy-plus years in the entertainment industry, Hope earned much more than two thousand awards and recognitions for his several professional and humanitarian work, including an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II, a Congressional Gold Medal from President Kennedy, the Medal of Freedom from President Johnson, and fifty-four honorary doctorates. Hope?s Christmas specials, USO shows, radio and television programs, and regular appearances on numerous sitcoms and variety shows have some of the highest ratings of any primetime telecasts. Because of this well-deserved praise, it is difficult to choose only a couple of television appearances as the “Best Of” Hope?s career. Instead, it is far better to look at the huge variety of shows Hope appeared on and why this versatile performer became America?s most beloved entertainer.

Born in England May 29, 1903, Hope and his family traveled to America in 1908 aboard the SS Philadelphia. Ironically, Hope was a relative latecomer to television; he dabbled in experimental broadcasts with NBC inside the 1930s but held off almost twenty years prior to starting his illustrious career. He began his official television career on Easter Sunday, 1950, on NBC. His specials, most of which had been sponsored by the Chrysler corporation, were often hysterically unscripted variety programs that featured such guest stars as Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Marilyn Monroe and Dina Shore.

Christmas Specials

Hope got substantial recognition for his gut-busting Christmas specials. These specials ran for years and featured duet performances of “Silver Bells” by Hope and adorable young guest stars, such as Olivia Newton-John and Brooke Shields. The most memorable Bob Hope Christmas specials had been, without a doubt, his 1970 and 1971 episodes. Filmed in front of military audiences at the height of the Vietnam War, these specials actually aired in January?after Hope was back inside the United States?and were seen by far more than sixty percent of television-viewing households in America. Like his other Christmas specials, the Vietnam shows were all about celebrating the traditional joy, peace and good cheer of the season. His use of humor, beautiful women and talented performers had been a welcome respite from the horrors of the war itself.

USO Performances

Hope is probably best identified for his performances for the United Service Organization (USO), beginning with his USO debut at March Field, California, on Could 6, 1941. Hope performed USO shows throughout World War II, prompting acclaim from such contemporaries as John Steinbeck. “It is impossible to see how he can do so a lot,” Steinbeck wrote in 1943, “can cover so significantly ground, can work so hard, and could be so effective.” Hope continued his USO shows during the Korean War, Vietnam War and Persian Gulf War, heading roughly sixty tours in total. Since of his tireless dedication to the overseas troops, Hope was awarded the impressive Sylvanus Thayer Award by the U.S. Military Academy in 1968. He was named an Honorary Veteran by a 1997 act of Congress, signed by President Clinton, a recognition Hope referred to as “the greatest honor I have ever received.”

Sitcom Appearances

Hope also appeared on a number of well-liked television programs during his career. Hope did a guest spot on America?s favorite TV show of the 1950s, “I Love Lucy”. Supposedly, Hope balked at the idea of making use of a script. He ad-libbed the entire episode, legend goes, giving 1 of his greatest performances inside the process. He also appeared on the Danny Thomas Show, the Jack Benny Show, the Ed Sullivan Show, the Donny & Marie Show, and others.

Saying Great Bye

Hope bid a nostalgic farewell to his television audiences in 1996 with “Laughing with the Presidents,” a special he co-hosted with Tony Danza. In this special, Hope gave a extremely personal tribute to the U.S. presidents he had identified and worked with during his career; Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Kennedy, Johnson, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and others. The show was a fitting and entertaining good-bye to the hardest working entertainer in American history.

It?s not surprising that Bob Hope was so heavily recognized for his work. Radio and television programs, USO shows, Christmas specials, books, movies; the man did it all. He helped the world smile during troubling times. He lent his celebrity status to good causes. He championed humor and fun as the top tool in achieving peace at residence and abroad. Hope wasn?t only a great entertainer; he was an amazing humanitarian.
